Filling in the Schedule

So I have been looking at the calendar and filling in all the squares with the activities of fall.  Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale is always a must. When I worked retail, it was on my requested day off list. Now that I am my own boss and maker of my own schedule again, Book Sale is in ink. October 26-29, 2012, Lubbock, TX.

I was also able to ink in Grape Day at Llano Estacado Winery. It is another annual event I have always gone to as observer and imbiber. But this year, I will be a vendor. It is confirmed I will have an 8" space to display the wares. I have been working on some grape themed earrings in commemoration of this event. I love this event because if you are not a wine drinker, it is a chance to sample all the different varieties the Winery makes. Then you can decide for yourself what you like and don't like. There will also be some food vendors and live music.

I am going to leave you with a sneak peek. The top pic is of hammered brass and carnelian earrings. The bottom is of a copper necklace on leather. This is a rare sighting of my copper work. I hope you feel privileged to see it.

Multiplicity Gallery

Oh, my! I have been very remiss in updating my blog. So sorry, blog readers! But I have been busy on the business end of art once again.

Exciting news!
I am now displaying at Multiplicity Gallery in Slaton, Texas. I had a great showing at the Fifth Friday in Slaton event on August 31, 2012. Multiplicity is the new gallery three doors down from the Slaton Bakery on the Square. Carol Koenig is the owner, operator, artist. Thanks Carol for creating an artist friendly gallery space and inviting me to be a part of it.

Here is just a teaser.

You have to go to the gallery to see the good stuff in person. I completed a necklace, earring, and pin set with dolphins. There are several pairs of embossed brass earrings. And a whole slew of whimsical earrings created with all different materials...paper, metal, stones from my trip to NYC...

Check out the Multiplicity website for events and class information.

Save the Date

Here is a quick update on my fall event schedule.
I am currently making plans to participate in the Local Color Studio Tour sponsored by the Lubbock Art Alliance. It will be held November 10 and 11, 2012 here in Lubbock, Texas. I will find out on Monday my "studio home" for the Tour.

I have been busy in the studio working on new designs incorporating some new materials. I can't wait for the great unveiling of the Fall Collection. But for the loyal, there will be a couple of opportunities for sneak peeks coming up at the end of August and mid-October. Stay tuned for location and date updates.

Meanwhile, here are a few more pictures of my adventures in the Big Apple. Apparently I was not interested in much other than food, shopping, and souvenirs.

Here is a piece of super awesome cheesecake from Junior's. As you can see, I could not wait to take a picture before I had a bite. Yum!

Of course, we had to stop at the Godiva Chocolate store for a sample... and a purchase.

Couldn't stop to buy the fresh flowers but I could take a picture to remember the moment.

NYC

I just got back from a whirlwind trip to NYC, Niagara Falls, and Toronto. As I have been going through my pictures, I realized I didn't take any iconic shots. The top picture is as close as I could come. Rockefeller Center during the summer.

I was all about the food. This is a shot of the tasty treats from the famous Magnolia Bakery. Yes, it was good enough that we went twice! Yum! Chocolate silk pie, chocolate cupcakes, and cookies!!

And what did I take a picture of while we were in Time Square? Yes, you have it. Street vendors and horses. Now I should have taken a picture of the Walgreen's. It became a favorite spot. We bought souvenirs and band-aides and other tourist supplies. Coming from the land of flat, it was interesting to take time to shop in familiar stores with unfamiliar two and three stories. Good use of the space!

Festival Fun

Here is a picture of the mini-set-up for the High Art on the South Plains. As a group, The Llano Estacado Clay Guild had an awesome array of art. The South Plains Woodturners demonstrated and the Quilting Guild had a beautiful fabric art display. Despite the heat, there was an excellent turnout for the event. Below is a pic of Brenda, friend and customer, wearing one of my necklaces and the matching earrings she purchased at the Lubbock Arts Festival in April.

Thanks so much to all the friends, family, and the like for coming out to enjoy the food, fun, and festivities.

Had to include a picture of me and my best roadie!

Post-Show Work

This week has been all about tying up loose ends from the Wine and Clay Festival. I had a few custom necklaces to get done. Studio clean up from the last minute mad dash of last week. Putting away my awesome display stuff.
Speaking of display...Thanks for all the great comments about my new set-up. It debuted at the Lubbock Arts Festival in April, and it has gotten rave reviews every time it is seen. I have a few variations so each show has its own specific look. My mother is the 3-D design expert so she actually designed the under workings with all the stuff I had collected. Then we draped the table with many layers of fabric...that too I had collected this past year. The final step is placing all the necklace busts and lights to create the magic.
Voila! Art show in a bag.
Each event has new merchandise to showcase and that adds to the uniqueness of each event.

Here is an example of the mini version of my 2012 display. At its debut, I had 16 feet of room. This is just 4 feet. At the Winery last weekend, I did an 8 foot version. While I was setting up, I had other artists watch and absorb. One told me she was going to "steal" some of my ideas. Go right ahead. We need to bring more interest to Art Shows. Our art is better received and sold if it is displayed in a pleasing manner. So go for it! Change up your set-up. Draw a new audience. Put that 3-D design class to work!
